10 Scriptures for the overwhelmed and stressed out Mama

Do you ever have those days where you feel like you are the worst mother EVER!?!
Did you yell at your kids today?
Did you get irritable with them when they repeated “mommy, mommy” over and over again, only to tell you that they love you? (ohhh, that one hurts)
Did you pretend like you didn’t see something that you really saw, but you finally got a moment to yourself with a Snickers bar?
Yeah, I’ve been there…
And I know how you feel.
Having kids is a hard job- it is not for the feeble.
But God gave us women the strength to keep doing what we do with little complaint (most days- we aren’t perfect).
However, we sometimes forget to tap into that strength, and the source of that strength…
Source of strength?
Yep, you guessed it…
God Himself is THE source of strength!

There are a few things you can do to help with the feelings you have, whether that be…

Overwhelmed…

Irritable…

Stressed…

Burnt Out…

Unappreciated…

Exhausted…

So, where do you start?

You can start your day off with prayer. That is always a BIG one for me.

Am I perfect at starting my day off the way I should?

No way!

I’m sure you feel the same way.

Why?

Because most of the time, the minute our feet hit the ground, we are BUSY.

We might be fighting with our children to get OUT OF THE BED

We might be making our husband’s lunch for work that day. (awww)

Or maybe we are rushing to the coffee pot BEFORE the fight with the kids and the bed.

But here’s the thing…

We all need to remember that by being “too busy” to have a moment with God, we are drifting further away from the peace that only He can offer us.

He does NOT drift away from us!

So…what do we do about this?

I’m going to tell you, but it’s possible you will scoff and say, “Yeah right!”

SET YOUR ALARM FOR AT LEAST 30 MINUTES EARLIER!

I know, I know…You WANT your sleep!

You NEED your sleep!

Why in the world would you get up EARLIER?

BEFORE needing to fight with the kids!

BEFORE needing to make your husband’s lunch!

Why would you get up when the house is quiet???

No one will be awake for at least half an hour…

Hmmmm….actually…

That sounds quite nice…

Right. 😉

Look, once your feet hit the ground, you’re up, and it’s really not that bad.

You can take your time getting to the coffee maker (which you set, or got ready, the night before).

You can sit down in a room by yourself, drink your coffee, and have a conversation with God about your struggles, and thank Him for your blessings.

Then, with your second cup of coffee, you can open up your Bible, and read some scripture to help you through your day. I find it helpful to have a notebook specifically for this…

Pray before opening your Bible that God will show you want He wants you to see today, and that you’ll understand what you read.

Then, write down every scripture that catches your eye for some reason, or that you want to memorize.

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. ” -Psalms 119:11

Doesn’t that sound amazing?!

So, in this post, I have compiled a list of scripture for the overwhelmed mom, dad, sister, brother…ANYONE.

These are my go-to when I am having an overwhelming, hard, busy day…

We weren’t promised easy…

But we were promised that He will never leave us, nor forsake us.

That’s good enough for me!

I truly pray this helps!

If you or someone you know needs prayer, feel free to contact me, and I’d be happy to pray for/with you!

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. ” -1 Peter 5:7

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” – Philippians 4:6-8

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” -John 16:33

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” -Isaiah 40:31

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” -Psalms 46:10

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” -Matthew 11:28-30

I could go on and on with this list!

I pray that once you start looking these up, it will inspire you to KEEP GOING!

Write these down in a notebook…

Pray with them…

Memorize them…

Look at them throughout your day.

I promise you that you will feel the difference!

By Jesica: The Proverbs Mama

Busy, but BLESSED. Yep, that's me! My name is Jesica (yes, one 's') and I am a wife of a gorgeous, loving husband, a mom of three fantastic, beautiful girls (as well as a HUGE German Shepherd and an adorable chocolate lab). Oh, and I work full-time. So, as you can imagine, I stay pretty busy with a 40-hour work week, cooking, cleaning, gymnastics, ballet, doctor visits, vet visits, grocery shopping...and let's not forget trying to make sure my husband and I make memories other than us running around trying to get work and chores done...whew...So I am sure you're wondering why I started a blog on top of all of that...Well, I am starting a blog to help other moms, not only by giving tips for parenting, cooking, or cleaning, but to let you know that NONE of us are perfect and we ALL do things that we are sure NO OTHER mom does. Well, I am here to tell you that we ALL do that thing that you're sure NO OTHER mom does. So, grab a cup of coffee (or whatever your preference) and start feeling GOOD about your abilities as a mom, dad, wife, or husband. For we are fearfully and wonderfully made by our God, and His works are MARVELOUS.
