I am a Child of God!
Easy to say, but do people know when they talk to me?
Can they tell that I love Jesus with all of my heart?
Can they tell that I am a Christian?
Can they even tell that I pray?
Well, I can’t speak for others, but I can speak for myself…and I don’t like the answer.
Besides a few co-workers that I work more closely with, I don’t talk about my relationship with Jesus at work…
I don’t tell people, “I will pray for you.” when they tell me something difficult they’re going through…
Not many people know that I read my Bible…
And, unfortunately, I let the overwhelming nature of my job get to me, resulting in ugly faces, sighs, and complaining…constant complaining.
Of course, I am human…you are human…but aren’t we meant to thank God for our blessings?
So, why do I constantly complain at a job God provided for me?
Why don’t I share the Good News with my fellow co-workers?
I always rationalize my lack of sharing with one of the following:
- I am shy/introverted
- What if I offend someone?
- What if they ask a question I don’t know the answer to?
- What do I even say?!?
Shy? God’s got it…
Fear? God’s got it…
Need answers? God’s got them
Need words? Ask God!
Do you see the pattern? God can and will help us…He is just waiting on us to ask!
So now we know that my lack of spreading the Good News is one reason people may not realize I am a God-lovin’, praying, full of hope, making it only by the grace of God, woman.
This isn’t good…
And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. ~2 Corinthians 6:18
The Bible tells us we are to carry the cross and follow Jesus (scroll back up to Mark 8:34).
We are to declare His glory and wonders among ALL people! (Psalm 96:3)
Yet and still, we (I) sit back in our shy, afraid to offend someone, bubble and let others do it for us.
The cross we carry isn’t too heavy, is it?
We can easily carry this cross all over town.
No one will even notice it.
THAT’S NOT GOOD!
You may be reading this knowing that you spread the Good News, you witness to people, and you have let God use you to bring people to Him by surrendering.
If so, that’s WONDERFUL!
However, I started this blog promising to be honest, real, and true, so I must admit my faults…
I must admit that I do not carry a heavy cross.
I must admit that I do not spread the Good News as I should…
I must admit that I do not tell others my story (with the exception of this blog).
IF ONLY I COULD SPEAK AS I WRITE!!!
Every time I even think about doing any of these things, those doubts come back (no doubt put in my mind by satan).
- What if they have questions I can not answer?
- What if I offend someone?
If someone is offended by what you have told them, accept them into your fellowship, but do not argue with them.
- I am so shy!
- What do I even say?
Do you see how you can find an answer to ANY question in your Bible?
One common answer to a lot of questions and worries and anxieties we as humans have is…
TRUST IN THE LORD!
Just trust in the Lord, and everything will work according to God’s plan!
Why do we lean on ourselves so much?
Why do we spend so much time googling and researching for things like calming anxiety or getting over shyness when the answer is in that perfect book on our nightstand?
That question is for me as much as for you reading this.
I have been guilty of googling ways to get over my shyness and be more extroverted so I can share the Gospel!
Why didn’t I open up my Bible to find those answers?
I don’t know…
I prayed for answers, of course, but I should have had my Bible open, on my lap, when I did.
Now that we have the answers, what do we do?
Well, glad you asked…
WE START SPREADING THE GOOD NEWS!
It’s time to step out of our introverted shell and start telling people about Jesus!
If they get offended, that’s okay. Pray that you may have planted a tiny seed and then keep praying that the tiny seed will grow and flourish!
If they ask a question you don’t have an answer to, get your Bible out and answer that question! Pray to God to show you the answer. He will, I promise. If you don’t have your Bible on you, whip out your phone and use your Bible App (I use YouVersion, but as long as it’s the true Word of God, it doesn’t matter which app you use.)
As far as overcoming the shyness…again, we must pray to God and lean on Him…He will help us overcome it.
Remember when you had to step out and walk to the altar?
Did you ever think you would be able to overcome that fear of walking out in front of strangers and accepting the Lord Jesus Christ?
I know I always thought I wouldn’t…
But here I am…saved by the grace of God who didn’t give up on me.
He pulled me out of the pits of Hell and gave me hope, peace, and an eternity with Him.
All because I (we) trusted Him to help me (us) take that first step…
The same applies here…
We must lean on God, pray for courage, and start telling everyone about our God!
But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.~Jeremiah 1:7-8
Do you still walk up to the altar when you have a need?
It gets a little easier every time, huh?
This will be the same.
One day, we will just do it, without fear…But we must continue trying, and praying, and overcoming.
Again, I am not just speaking TO YOU…I am speaking to me as well.
I will be praying and overcoming right along with you!
So will you do it with me?
Will you start spreading the news, and trusting God to help you?
Will you let people know you are…
A Child of God!?
Not just by spreading His word, but by living according to the Fruits of the Spirit…
That’s all a part of being a child of God, too!
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. ~Galatians 5:22-26
We must also stay away from these things:
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. ~Galatians 5:19-21
People notice our lifestyles…They will notice if you are telling them about God, and then overhear you cursing in your next conversation.
They will notice if you tell them God loves them, and then see you gossiping about another co-worker.
They will notice if they see you gripe and complain way more than you are thankful and joyous.
For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. ~ 1 Peter 3:10-12
I’m not saying you can’t be human with human emotions…this body is flesh.
But, an effort needs to be made on our parts to SHOW what God can do for everyone…not just tell.
As I said before, I am so guilty of constantly complaining at work…and I will gripe with the best of them about something another co-worker did.
I feel the conviction for it, too.
I promise myself every day on my way to work that I will be better.
I need to pray more about it, instead of promising myself.
Read that again.
So, let’s pray that we SHOW AND TELL the love of Jesus to EVERYONE.
“Every brief encounter…that You send my way…is a chance to show the love You gave me.” ~Jaci Velasquez, “Speak for Me”
How true is that one lyric?
Let’s use our brief days…brief moments…brief encounters…to our advantage!
Tell your Story!
Tell your story of overcoming in the comments…
Or tell others of the fears you have when it comes to sharing the Gospel…
You can even tell others about the daily struggles you have every day…
Let’s support, encourage, and inspire each other!
I can’t wait to read what you have to say.
